memory problem

happens when i install the new ram and boot up i get a black screen and this msg>

warning : memory configuration is not supported. please see user documentation for reccommended memory configurations.
press POWER button to shut down.

just got some new additional ram to speed up load times a bit and i get this bs. been on and off with tech support and they dunno whats goin on either anyways if anyones encounters this before plz post any troubleshooting tips.

is there a list of supported RAM manufacturers for your motherboard, and if so, is the RAM you bought on that list? some mobos are very picky about what RAM they'll accept.

i've been fiddleing with it some more and i took the 2 256meg sticks out of the comp that were in there and put the new one inside by itself and its booting up properly so i proceeded to put the 256's back inside and get that screen again.

I'm thinkin that the memory are all conflicting with each other atm.

but i have no idea why the 256's are both 400/3200 speed and the new one i bout is 512 400/3200 also.

Nother weird thing is when i check the sys config with just the 256;s in there it says that its runing 333mhz

the 512 by itself on sys configuration says its running at 400mhz.

check your mobo manual - sometimes you get lower speeds by using 3 DIMM slots. it's certainly that way in mine - I have to use the slots designated as 1 and 2 for the RAM to run @ 400MHz.

well i got one of the 256's to run with the 512 so thats bit of good news i geuss the other 256 stick is gonna go to rott tho i think .

but still runing at 333mhz which sucks but still troubleshooting so hopefully i can get it to run at 400 soon.
