Coming to your server soon!

Posted: Fri Jan 21, 2005 9:52 am Post subject: Open letter to Legends Customer Service team

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following message was sent to the support e-mail addresses for Legends earlier this week. Given that we have not yet received a response, we figured we'd make it a public plea:

Hello Legends GM's and support staff,

The following message was posted by me to the members of the guild Fie of Nobility, the last stable raiding guild left on Stormhammer. This message was posted with the approval of the leadership team of FoN, and represents an attempt to buy time to stabilize the guild at a time when many are leaving for other games, or abandoning Stormhammer en masse due to the plummeting population.

We are fast approaching the tipping point where FoN may no longer be able to remain a cohesive unit, so, again with the approval of the FoN guild leaders, I am passing this message along to you. Please expect a follow-up e-mail from Mens and/or Davana requesting a summit with the GM and support staff to discuss what steps SOE is planning to ensure the continued viability of Legends. We don't want to leave, but we are rapidly approaching the point where it is our only means of sustaining the guild.

Regards,
Jonathan *****

We have watched as our server withered...
We have all bitched about it, /feedbacked it, and even bent a GM’s ear a time or two. We have seen Legacy of Ages, Township Rebellion, Precision Strike and others leave for supposedly greener pastures. We’ve stood by as Praetorian Order, Dark Fidelity, and countless smaller guilds died, watched Knights of Zek struggle to gather the numbers for targets once easily within its reach. We have stood helpless as family and friends, wearied by endless hours looking for groups, and sickened by wandering through once vibrant zones now desolate in their vacancy, returned to home servers or retired. We have suffered the empty promises of powerless GMs, the deaf ears of SOE management that might be able to save, nay, resurrect the server we love.

Many of us, perhaps all, have thought about leaving as well. Considered that perhaps it is time, or past time, to abandon the server we’ve grown to cherish.

...We have a decision to make...
FoN’s leadership has been discussing the issue over the past few weeks, has decided on a timeline for a decision, and we have shared it with the other remaining guilds on the server. By February 28th, 2005, we will have either committed to remaining on Stormhammer, or we will have begun the process of moving to another server. Even now officers are researching the other 40 or so servers available to us an will be ready to offer a recommendation if the decision is to leave.

Why wait until the end of February? To give family time to return from other pursuits (both in real-life and in other games), to give those that feel strongly either way an opportunity to present their arguments, and to give those unsure of their feelings time to grow comfortable with their decision. And, I suppose, time to give SOE one more chance to save Stormhammer.

The GMs have promised an important new announcement in the next few days, changes that they hope will stop the hemorrhaging that has occurred over the last few months and begin to attract new population to Stormhammer. Whether the changes are meaningful or ultimately successful remains to be seen.

There are many positive and negative aspects to a server move, and I’d like to take a minute to point out a couple of the more onerous.

We may have to leave our family from Firona and Sullon behind, as the GM’s claim that no exceptions will be made to the server move policy. We’ve heard rumors that the rules were bent for TR and PS, but we don’t know for sure. Leadership is contacting TR and PS to discover the truth. Regardless, members from FV and SZ will be at the mercy of the whims of SOE.

We will face far more intense competition on a standard server, and have far less support from the GM staff. Leadership will work hard to identify a server with a SH-like rotation (though one obviously enforced by players, not SOE), but we will not enjoy the same freedom of targets that we have now as the top guild on the server. Those looking to complete epics may find their way barred by competition for rare spawns.

It will cost $75 per account to move your characters (with their items) to a new server, and may not be possible for those that are not the original owners. For those with multiple accounts or lots of alts there will be a significant upfront cost, though one largely recovered after a few months at the reduced standard-server cost. Those with Ebayed accounts may find that SOE refuses to move them at all.

There will be a few weeks, perhaps as much as a month, where it will not be possible to raid. Moving an entire guild to a new server, getting on a rotation, forming relationships with established guilds, and unfortunately, replacing those that remain behind on SH, will take time. Expect a hiatus from raiding as we reorganize.

We truly believe that the majority of FoN wants to stay on Stormhammer, that if the server population tripled this discussion would end instantly. We are the top guild on the server, we choose our targets with impunity, and we are poised for unfettered access to the candyland that is Plane of Time. It may be that our AFK members and old friends will return and staying here clearly will be the best option. But to paraphrase an old proverb, we are far better off simultaneously preparing for the worst as we hope for the best.

...And that decision is yours.
The course of action we take, the decision on FoN’s future is, of course, yours. Without its members FoN is nothing, and leadership can not make the decision for you. Within two weeks from the date this message was posted a poll will be put up for members to vote on. Please take a moment to consider the options presented to you, and vote honestly. The destiny of the guild truly rides on your vote.

In the interim, if you are considering leaving, please stick around to see what the rest of your family will choose to do. A second poll is being posted along with this message to see how many members have moved on without posting goodbyes, how many are afk for awhile, and how many are ready to continue our march to Time. In the meantime, we will continue recruiting, gearing, and flagging as if we are remaining here.

Regards,
Shryk

They just transferred 700 to 1000 eq china accounts to my server. Too bad the last expansion they had in China was Luclin.

I'm still curious as to why they just don't knock the servers down for one full day, and try to pair up two together (in other words try to evenly merge them all by taking a statiscal avg. of recent traffic.). This would not only most likely alleviate some of there bandwidth costs, but will also create a new atmosphere for everyone.

Do something similar to what they did with the PvP servers. There will of course be negativethoughts on this issue, just like any other change, but people get used to them. As it is now, EQ1 is slowly dieing off, some will never leave, but it's starting to get boring and empty at times.

With some good planning, and careful thought, and perhaps advanced notice (have name change requests, and others hadled before the big change), this could be all put into effect within a months time.

All in all, I personally (opinion here) would enjoy seeing something like this happen, too once again create a large populated world.

Here's why they won't take Stormhammer, and merge with another server..

Stormhammer is legends server, $40 extra a month. Mixing it with another server, would negate any reasons for that server being there. They get extra CS, and Gm events, etc on Stormhammer for paying that much..

Sorry...

... but cry me a fucking river full. It's hilarious to see that the "top guild" on Stormhammer is looking for numbers to "continue the march to Time" as opposed to leading most servers in content, like they used to.

Oh nos, I pay $40 a month for uncontested spawns and I'm whining about it! HLEP!!11!!

As for the ebay'd toons... aaaaw... guess they should have progressed the chars themselves.

And for the server merger, people made the choice to move there and get better customer support and uncontested spawns... not it's something they have to live with. Devs are gonna change that. All servers are suffering and I don't think they would easily give up their cash crop first rather than combining other servers.

/hate off

You know, I read your post, and I was truley, deeply amused. It made me laugh inside. Your a worse flamer than Sebbonx. Don't flame, if you don't have your shit together. People moved to Stormhammer for enhanced CS, and more gm events, and to test shit out(New Paw/MM/Hole/PoHate,etc). Not for uncontested spawns, which you seem to be pointing at.

Oh I know that. I'm just talking about the way it stands now. Hell, they made the GM enforced rotation because so many spawns were contested. I was taking that from the email sent saying they are the only guild left that's doing any content. And I was just stating that it must truly suck not to have to worry about a rotation anymore.
