Weapon/gear advice needed
Hello,
My toon just entered 91st season. It is adventuring mostly with groups, not attending raids. I have hard time keeping attention during battles against friendly ranger, who after pulling mostly is on autoattack. My DPS is rather low (around 2.5kHP). I start battles with Grendlean Roar rkII, than I start hitting, throw commanding voice, knee strike, Field outfitter if needed and then I operate with taunt/kick. If I am loosing attention I am trying Scoff, Blast of Anger etc., but sometimes it seem to not be enough My profile: http://eq.magelo.com/profile/1416350 Can you take a look at it and suggest where to look for improvement (mind I am not raiding). Thanks |

Use scoff, grendlean roar, and gut punch every mob. I'm pretty sure the hastened gut punch aa might be needed but its been awhile and don't remember the un-hastened refresh on gut punch.

Since you know that the Ranger is able to exceed your aggro, don't wait to see if you are "loosing attention" (aggro). Use your abilities as they become available. Scorpion's Agony potions will add an aggro proc. Symbol of the Planesmaster will add another. I note that even though you don't raid, you play on FV so I assume Symbol of the Planesmaster can be purchased at the bazaar. In general your gear is fine.

With a quick look I don't see anything wrong wtih your AA's or gear that really stand out.
One minor thing that may help is that at your level your level 85 hate disc should produce more hate than your level 90 one. The bazu line was a proper upgrade where the scoff line actually decreased from 85-90 (but got more effecient in endurance). At level 95 scoff is back where it should be. As BB said, SoTP can help, poisons can help, but your main methods for aggro are bazu/scoff/gut punch/BoA. If the ranger is equally geared you should have no problems generally holding aggro. There will be the occasional ping pong if they're engaging fast and get a lucky string of procs/ect but that's pretty unavoidable unless you're in such a slow killing group that all your buttons are up and mashed on every incoming mob. Edit: If you are in an area that it's safe to do so whorl blade and rampage can also help. Just remember to think about it when you hit those. Chanters tend to get annoyed after the first time you break mez on a group of mobs. Last edited by Cowboyatheart; 07-11-2012 at 02:48 PM. |

Wanted to point out that there's a couple of things the Ranger can do that would make things more difficult - using an SoTP or Call of Fire himself, the aggro poisons, or aggro weapon procs.
And some that can make things easier - at level 92 start using Jolting Impact.

Your aa look fairly solid.
Because of your level, there are limitations on some of the AA lines, but you may be able to start getting some of the VoA ones if you have done some language work. As others have mentioned, maxing the following lines if you can will help. Hastened Scowl Hastened Bazu Hastened Gut Punch Infused by Rage Blast of Anger Gut Punch I would also suggest, looking at Roar of Challenge and Whorl Blade (if usable as mentioned). These also help to generate aggro. The other thing I saw is your legs aug, should swap to your shield. Get the biggest AC aug you have that fits in secondary and put it on your shield. Not sure if it was mentioned, but do not spam taunt. Save taunt for when you need it. If you have aggro, taunt gives you +1 hate. Not much. If the ranger takes aggro, taunt + aggro ability (any of the ones mentioned) will help you out more than spamming it with kick. And if the ranger is overaggroing, tell him to Jolt more. There are 2 sides to aggro... losing aggro to someone else and someone else not controlling their aggro generated. |

Thank you very much for your help!
It seems I have Symbol of the Planesmaster at my bag, but I was not using it not knowing how important it is. But now I know ![]() I will try to use Jeer instead of Scoff, and will work on hastening my abilities. And thank you for augment suggestion! |

I'm glad to hear that you have one. It won't make all the difference in the world, but add aggro poisons, hastened aggro disciplines, etc...it adds up and you will notice a difference.

The only thing I saw that wasn't mentioned is that you should front load all of your agro. DaKoolaid is absolutely right when he says to use those discs every fight, just do them at the start. If your fights are lasting long enough it may be worth hitting them again when they refresh but you will have to determine that so they will have time to pop before the next mob.
