returning warrior looking for upgrade path
It's been not quite 2 years-ish or so since I've played, and I just re-subbed. I'm missing the last 2 expansions. My current gear is mostly Anguish, and I'm using BBoB/epic for weps.
I'm looking for upgrades that I can obtain with a mercenary (just found out about those, I love that idea!) or with a mage friend and both of our mercenaries, or from the bazaar etc. I won't be in a guild (at least not a functioning one), and I won't even be lfg for a while, at least until I remember what button does what, and possibly get a couple of the afore-mentioned upgrades. I apologize in advance for being lazy and not doing my own research. But I figure if I start getting all caught up now in stressing over which gear is perfect etc, before I've even really started playing again, I'll lose interest really quick. So if you have any gear suggestions that can be obtained by a duo/partial group, I would really appreciate it. Thanks very much. |

It depends on your desired results really. If your looking to be casual and have little desire to reach the current content the list is unlimited on things you could do to mess around.
If your looking to expidite yourself to the point of being usefull in a guild and current grouping, your going to need to find a 3rd friend. I would begin with SoD progression trying to pick up what visables and AC augs you can as you go, whyle daily busting out all 3 OMM missions and a few boomerangs. Through boomerangs youll be able to equip almost all your non-vis slots and with old man at the least you would get a few awsome augs. SoD progression would stil be worth it because it would be a stepping stone into UF with discs and faction that would still be handy also upgradeing your merc to top tier. Once you got your t5 group vis, boomerang non-vis, old man augments youll be about ready to take on UF progression and upgrade it all again. Weapon wise youll want to shoot for a mindrend from Kora and the War sword from the Boomerang merchant, these would be easy enough to attain and good agro upgrades and from there you can once again replace as you work through UF. |

One suggestion to just get you a baseline boost would be to look into cultural armor for visible and the boomerang event for non-visible (can also be bazaar bought if people are selling silver tokens).

deffinately gonna need some upgrades before u do sod content which your missing anyways
so restricting u back to sof and below content u may want to look into getting the tbs armour to start u can buy orux in bazzar but u will need the faction to purchase by doing the missions over and over allas has a guide http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/g...html?guide=942 start dropping those pure hp augs for either the new hybrid augs or pure ac once u start tanking sof and higher content u will need the higher mitagation due to the change of mob strikthrough values that happened in sof |

And i'll add more AAs too. Find yourself a nice spot to grind, try ruins of illsalin (undead arena) or loping plains. |

Daily -
Fenden Helter's missions in Dragonscale Hills for Warleader's Pearl and Coleoptera Mechanical Beetle Eye OMM MM's Boomerang missions Specific Targets - Dungore in Dragonscale Hills for Polished Caracite after gearing up a bit - Jracsza the Feral in Field of Scale for Feral Eye an ancient bonegrinder in Field of Scale for Bonegrinder's Bauble You might also consider Stonewardens and Shard of the Guardian from Dreadspire Keep. There are other not terribly difficult AC aug camps but most of them require some progression and/or gearing up. None of the daily stuff listed cares about your gear quality - it's either shrouded or non-combat. The OMM missions have chest drops which might be of some use. You might consider initially purchasing armor and as you acquire armor elsewhere selling back the armor you have purchased to acquire OMM augs. One of the major benefits of the OMM's is that you don't have to camp armor to acquire armor you are going to replace as quickly as possible and non-chest drops have a reasonable resale value. My guess is that if you dilligently do the daily tasks listed, hit the specific targets, and get some rots you could be reasonably well equipped in ~45 days without playing much over 2 hours a day.

and for current content you need to do more DPS (warrior's DPs has greatly improved since TSS), so you need to through away your BBoB/epic2 setup as soon as possible, which means that you need a new hate mod (tier4+ BP should be the faster/easier to get or the boomerang 1Her if you get it fast) and maybe even concider a step down in aggro if you are mostly duoing (BBoB -> bazaar weapons ; out of memory a fully augged stalwart sword is decent DPS and decent aggro or new attunable UF war-only weapons). and btw, the war-only weapon from boomerang game is the second best aggro weapon (when lvled) for groupers, so you can concentrate on a single other weapon (bazaar or dropped).

Looks like the bulk of the issue is augs. The gear comes with time.
Honestly I'd just work on the typical path, defiant to sod to sof. It'll be rough at times and time consuming, but doable. You'll need at minimum a partner though to request missions of any type at all though, or no progression will be doable.

I agree with Dshiz. Work those boomerang missions whenever possible. The raw ac alone on those non-vis items will be a huge bonus. And the Brell's sword starts good and keeps getting better. Get that asap so you can level it while doing other stuff. You can baz-buy silver, but not gold.
You will absolutely need to do the SOD progression path to make your merc semi-useful in Underfoot. Just do the Field of Scale iksar mask tasks first then find someone that can request all the progression missions. With boomerang gear and a top mage it should be doable. Remember to always check for named in the instances. If you do all the missions required to request the progression ones in FOS they are also the quickest way to get all your Tier 4 visible drops. Request a mission, zone in, wait 15 min, and the named will pop. Those named can drop all the different slots. |

Thanks for all the responses folks, I appreciate it. I guess my goal is firstly to hang out with some old friends, and at least be useful in a group with them. Currently, that's pretty debatable. I was grouped with an 82 sha-person and her warrior merc, and the merc out-agro'd me by a noticeable amount. And soloing is pretty much out. Light blues in Dragonscale or Loping Plains kicked my ass from 1 end of the block to the other. WoS is the only place I've actually been able to solo so far, and the mobs there don't give a helluva lot of exp.
Following that, I believe I would at least like to try raiding again, provided RL leaves me enough time for it. Not at any kind of hardcore "uber" level, but hopefully at the same level I was at previously, which was more of a friends and family guild that did a fair bit of raiding. Hopefully, at least. I've started running the Fenden Helter missions in DH, as well as a couple of the OMM missions (still have to get into the grouping mind-set again to do those on a regular basis). If I do decide to keep playing, I'll get the Underfoot expansion and then start working on the Boomerang missions and such. As well, I'm going to check into the cultural armor, and see if that's a possible, viable route (I'm a GM smith, so as long as I can get the materials from bazaar, it should be doable) /wave Mendler. for some reason when I saw that name I thought you were a rogue. Oh well, old age n' senility suck Thanks again for all the help and info, everyone! -edit- shammy or cleric merc? Last edited by zito; 02-15-2010 at 05:43 PM. Reason: merc question |

Zito, I solo in Vald all the time and the aa exp is pretty good. Granted I'm endgame geared so you can't compare our two toons fairly. You should really do some of those Old Man McKenzie monster missions (OMM's) since the exp can't be beat anywhere. Get those done with two friends and get some augs from that and Boomerang missions for non visibles and agro augs.
For aa exp you need to find an old zone like Vald or Thal (Thal is a hotzone and pretty good exp) from TBS expansion off of Katta. Kill LOTS of light blue mobs as fast as you can and if you are able tank a handful at a time so you can kill the others with riposte dmg (if you have the riposte aa's done) ....oh and grab a good twohander for that type of killing. I have gotten almost 1K aa's from Vald if that tells you anything of the exp (6 to 8% per kill and I pull 8 to 16 at a time). I only have enough time for lesson burns and all of those aa's have come in the last 4 or so months. Log my war in Vald ( I have a shammy bot outside of group most times) kill for 30 minutes get 15 aa's then log out. If I can't/don't want to play that day I just log war in pop lesson and camp out so that way I can get an hour of double exp instead of 30 minutes. Augs augs augs is where you need to spend time after you get your missions I mentioned before. Like someone else mentioned above the gear will come (lots of rot stuff floating around and eventually you'll get some groups to do current stuff for gear). Good Luck man! If you want to come to EMarr, I will help you level up when i'm on =)
