TDKR was good. Had a few great moments. Had some plot holes etc. but still a fun movie overall. Too bad it's that team's last Batman.
Prometheus wasn't all that Yoda. I didn't find LOTR gay but then again I must have read the books at least 5x growing up. Really looking forward to The Hobbit. Avengers was super fun. Can't really comment on the rest for now, but Recall does look pretty good, especially the chick with three tits--yummy! |

Some spoilers embedded below, so skip the post if you don't want to read them and TDKR isn't where you live yet.
------------------------- TDKR: Anything with Anne Hathaway worked. She saved the movie from being total crap. Anything with Bane and the Magic Disembodied Voice blew. And probably my major complaint is that overprocessed, unrealistic voice that brought back images of The Muppets. Covering your hero or villains face for 99.9% of the movie does not work. It sounded like whoever it was was in a soundbooth offscreen and it didn't match up beilevably to the character. It doesn't help that Bane is one of the worst Batman villains in the comics or otherwise and this didn't change that. When you have to hurt the hero physically to get a character over with the fans, you have yourself an inherently weak character. The monologuing. Oh my god, the monologuing. 2.75 hours of people giving speeches. Even worse, Bane, allready crippled by the overprocessed voice, giving one of the most rip-roaring hilarious speeches from the steps of city hall. I really wanted to burst out laughing at the ludicrousness of it, but hey.. i'm considerate of my fellow viewer. The Passion of The Batman. With the exception of the aforementioned Miss Hathaway, nobody showed up wanting to actually have fun. Everybody was a few Vicodin short of a good performance as they emoted the PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNN . The Deserted City of Gotham. Where were the people? Are they chafing under the rule of Bane or simply having the time of their lives under the new leadership? One of the brilliant parts about TDK was actually finding ways to include them so you can feel with the city feels. Not to mention, the logical climax should feature them rising up with the help of Batman to take back the city and free the police, not have some freaking cops do it that have been in the sewers for 3 months. Are you kidding? Really? Want to know what happens when a relatively large and lightly armed force takes on a heavily armed smaller force? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1csr0dxalpI starting @ 3:30. As a bonus you get Michael Caine in his first featured role. What it really needed was massive amounts of citizens overwhelming Bane's criminals through sheer numbers with a lot of people dead. The city itself finally saying no more. All in all... Hathaway works, the very end with bowtying the series is decent, and thats about it. Its the 3rd best of Nolan's Batman films, and the very worst movie he's ever made. I'd gladly watch BB, TDK, or really any of his other films(its not like i'm not a fan of his work) again, i'll probably never sit through this again. 2012
John Carter - fell asleep during it. >>> was ok, but the original story from Asimov was borderline, so no wonder that the disney version is a little better but not that entertaining either. Btw.. the John Carter books were written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Same guy who created Tarzan. |

The story is old, and it showed. A riproaring action film featuring a civil war vet going to Mars should have been killed before it got off the ground. That might work in 1912, its just dated now. Most 'old' stories simply don't work in cinema without some form of modernization. Its why faithful tellings of Three Muskateer, Dracula, or Frankenstein movies rarely work. Even Shakespeare's stuff tends to go unwatched without a modernization ala Romeo + Juliet(The Dicaprio version). |

Thor and Cap America are on netflix now--both decent and worth seeing imo.
Conan remake fucking sucked. I tried 4x to watch on netflix and fell asleep each time and finally gave up. Good points on batman quill-i agree with most of your points but I still enjoyed it. |

Bourne Legacy was pretty good. They did a good job tying in Jason Bourne to the new movie. My wife even liked the movie and she has a hard time with he sheer number of death defying situations they create.

I am final, I am sorry, but, in my opinion, there is other way of the decision of a question.

so, with 2012 over, what was the best movie for you ?
For me it was The hobbit, with a big distance to the second (whatever it is). |

The Hobbit really didn't do it for me, I was actually bored. Though the material they covered is probably the least interesting part of the book. Hoping the next installment will be better.
For me, it was probably Skyfall. Though, I found the last 3rd a little tedious, and the villain portrayal didn't work all that well. Same with TDKR, the villain underwhelmed. Jack Reacher probably would have been good, if I hadn't already read the books. For pure drama I enjoyed Silver Linings Playbook, and Trouble with the Curve. I was probably the most entertained by The Avengers. Worth mentioning are Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, and Argo. |

Hobbit was very good but I am a fan so take that with a grain of salt. There wasn't the end all battle (there were some but not the previous ones) so that might of turned off some. I'm really looking forward to the next two movies.
The Avengers was pretty good. I want to see Zero Dark Thirty. I did see Argo and loved it.

LOTR lore is like Harry Potter - either you're into it or you're not, and that basically determines if the movie is good/sucks. Another way of telling that is whether you or anyone close to you have bought/read the LOTR trilogy, Hobbit, and other Tolkien works.
My brother used to have all of that stuff, incidentally. |

Only movie I got really excited about in 2012 was Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Thankfully it did come here so I got to see it. Very well done.
