Snowchipper

Maybe this would be better placed under the sticky thread about agro, but I didn't think the info would be all that pertinent to the thread because this is obviously not an uber weapon.

Did some searches on my new weapon, a snowchipper, and it seems as if folks don't like it as much as the frostbringer. I use a centi longsword in my secondary hand and just recently upgraded my defiance to this snowchipper.

My question is: Because the proc is the same spell and the dam/del ratio is very similar between the frostbringer and the snowchipper, why do folks lik ethe snowchipper more? Does it proc more?

Snowchipper is a nice bard weapon; i've seen plenty of bards swinging them.
As a warrior weapon; eh, the proc isn't all it seems to be. Some like it; some hate it; some just use it for stats; either way like you said it fills a role of replacing your defiance so use it for what it's worth.

is it the same proc as the frostbringer tho? i don't think it is ..

You are absolutely correct and I'm sorely disappointed. Snowchipper procs frostcall whereas frostbringer procs frostbite. Frostcall is a 120 DD. Bummer.

If I were to sell off my centi ls I could afford the frostbringer... if I could ever find someone selling one :( Looked for one all weekend and didn't give up until sunday night when I bought the snowchipper for 7k :(

Snowchipper still useful as an offhand if I use frostbringer as primary ya think?

yeah, there really ain't nothing wrong with a snowchipper offhanded ( or even mainhanded ) if that's what you got to work with.

get your money's worth from it; and just keep at the frostbringer fund if you're hunting; bazaar purchasing; or straight up killing the dude that carries it.

On our server (Terris Thule) Snowchipper usually goes for around 10k+. I managed to get one for 9k to go with my 5k Frostbringer. I then decided I needed to sell it to outfit my 56 rogue whom I moved from another server. It didn't sell. Over the last 2-3 weeks there have been 4-5 chippers for sale in the bazaar. The lowest is still 9.5k though.

I am pretty sure you could sell your chipper and get a frosty and still have money left over. But, economys vary widely on servers.

I like having a barb with 2 snow-based weapons, myself. The 120dd proc isn't that great an aggro, but when combining with the excellent FB one, I think it works out well.

I like the Frostbringer abit more then the Snowchipper but i wouldnt mind upgrading my lammy to the snowchipper (12k)or even a Wavecrasher (25k) on my server.

But yeah Frostbringers proc is an AC debuff that lingers for a while so you get abit more agro then the snowchipers Frostcall..

The problem that I found with Snowchipper is that its a DD based proc. It doesn't add any more aggro than a better ratioed weapon. The difference being that a better ratio is a constant whereas a proc isn't.

I used mine for a few weeks and then gave it back to my guild for others to benefit from. It does have a nice GLS type effect which is handy for a barb like myself, but not enough to make it a permanent part of my weapon line-up. I still have to tote a GLS around to see at 61 LoL.

If you have one available and its an upgrade I defenitely say use it. Otherwise, your plat may be best spent on a weapon of similar ratio with a dot type effect or just plain better ratio.

Snowchippers for 12k thats not right. frostbringer's proc has debuff thats more aggro. simple about the same dps maybe a little better on the SC.

Logged in, checked bazaar and there was a frostbringer for sale! Looked all last weekend, log in monday night and there's one for sale for 7k. Sweet! Too bad I'm 2k short, right? Then I see an auction WTB centi longsword (which just happened to be my offhand). 5mins later I was the proud owner of a frostbringer!! Now I have that in my primary and my snowchipper in my secondary. I sure can keep the aggro now! I guess I'll start saving to upgrade my FBSS next (lol). Then there's always armor upgrades. people pay for looks dobbo; and there aren't as many snowchippers floating around as there are frostbringers i'd reckon
( IMHO snowchipper should be dwarf only; if there is any weapon in EQ that screams "Dorf Only"; the snowchipper is it. Dwarves look cool with picks. )
