I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for efficient mob targeting.

For example: You are in a full group. Your group goes into a heavily populated dungeon with bad guys crawling off the walls. You pull, say, 3 mobs. Leaving crowd control out of the picture for the moment, what is the best way to switch targets? Using the /targetnextnpc command seems ineffective, especially when there are bad guys roaming around in the back of the room, and you have to cycle through all of them to get to the target you want.

Is there a command of some sort that I'm missing? Or a better technique for targeting altogether?

In my humble opinion it's important to work out your strategy in advance before you run into it. For instance, with pick up groups, I usually ask up front what they want me to do with multiple monsters--whether they want me to target just the biggest monster and stick to it or whether they want me to try to keep them all on me.

if they want me to keep them all on me (typically because we don't have crowd control in the group), they need to know I will do that because often they use the /assist whatever it is function which makes them target whatever I target.

If I plan to switch targets, I need to be group leader and mark for them who the main monster is so they don't switch with me (if they switch with me, it defeats the purpose of me making add ons mad at me).

If they have crowd control and plan to handle the add ons, or if there's an off tank or blood mage or something, then I just watch their health closely rather than automatically switching targets.

Wow. You must get good pug's, I have had a couple. Most of the folks I meet are too impatient in pug's till after we die to discuss things;(it's that console game attitude). Then the discussion starts with who's fault it is instead of what we should have done in the first place. I have to admit though, vanguard has WAAAAY more patient folks in it than WoW did.
