Note 1: I am not listing every set, just some of the more common ones people have been using at different levels.

Note 2: Someone else is going to have to make up a Guide for Lizards who cannot wear some of the plate armors.

Armor progreshion:

Newbie quests: These quests are spiffy for those of you who are just starting out in EQ. Your guild trainers will give you information on how to do them if your race has them. I wish I had them back in the day when I started out.

Crafted/Crusty: Almost the same thing. Some slots of crusty being better ( ie. greaves ) and some crafted being better( ie. breastplate ). Crafted armor is the result of Old World quest and nowadays it is cheaper to buy the armor than quest for it. Crusty or Crustacean Shell is dropped off of Othmirs in Cobalt scar, and again you are probably going to end up buying it from farmers.

Barbed ringmail: This armor comes from Velketor's Labyrinth. You again will more likely buy this armor rather than win it nowadays. Most notable is the Breastplate which is a nice step up from crafted/crusty and also lizard useable.

Hate Armor: This armor comes from the Plane of Hate ( duh )off of the mummy looking monks named A Kiraikuei. There is a set for Lizards ( Legionnaire Scale ) and a Set for normal warriors ( Indicolite ) available here. This Armor is no-drop on most servers so you will have to kill for it ( finally, thank god some action ) There is a quest in the plane of knowledge that allows you to turn in this armor for gems and a bit of EXP when you grow out of it, well for the normal set at least.

Cobalt/Berserker's/Champions:The next step has three options ( well two for Lizards ).

Cobalt armorcomes from the Dungeons of Kunark but can be acquired from the bazaar as well. The most notable thing about this armor is the higher AC ( than the other two sets at this level anyway ) and the right click effects. The Breastplate can heal you and the Greaves can turn people invisible. The bracer can shrink people the boots give you more strength. The helm grants you Infravision. The arms shield you, and finally the gloves have a crappy buff that I used the scare newbies with. Lizards cannot use this armor

Champion’s armor is the lowest level of the Velious quest armors. Think Cobalt with less ac and no clicks ( well all but the breastplate) but much better stats. To get Champs or thurg quest gear, you need to have good faction with The coldain dwarves, kill in Kael for corroded plate armor, and find three gems from the frozen lands. This armor is No-Drop and but can be multi-quested.

Berserker's Armor comes from the Plane of Growth. Has similar stats to Champions armor but no gems necessary. one Note about PoG, killing in PoG makes Elves hate you. Not too much of a problem nowadays however. This armor is No-drop and is not a quest so the only way to get it is to piss off Tunare.

Next step and the Last one I will cover for now: Myrmidon/Warlord/Tradeskill

Myrmidonarmor is the result of the Dragon quests in Velious. Much hp on this set of armor to gain this armor you need to kill in the Halls of Testing and return three gems along with unadorned plate to Skyshrine. This armor is Multi-questable but you need ally faction before you can think about getting this armor.

Warlord armor is the result of the Giant quests in Velious. This armor is nice for people who dream about AC all night long. To get this armor you need to kill in the ToV. and turn in the ancient tarnished armor with three gems in Kael. This armor is Multi-questable but you need ally faction.

Trade skill armor is where things get a bit touchy. Stats on these armor sets are comparable to the other sets at this level and in some instances better than the other two. For the full lowdown on these armors look at EQ Traders under the Cultural and Cazic Thule recipes.

Well that is it for now. Hope you have found something useful from all of this.

PS: I recall an armor comparison chart that was made and for some reason I want to say Radbarsh made it. If anyone still has the link it would be a help.

The stats shown on that linked chart are wrong for Moktor--for the most part it was just leaving off the wisdom on the items, but some of the other stats are wrong also. Here are the correct stats:

Moktor Boots +21 AC +10 Sta +2 Wis +15 vsMg +15 vsFire
Moktor Bracer +13 AC +4 Str +4 Dex +1 Wis +4 vsCold
Moktor Breastplate +36 AC +15 Str +15 Sta +6 Wis +15 HP
Moktor Gauntlets +17 AC +5 Str +5 Dex +1 Wis +5 vsDis
Moktor Greaves +21 AC +10 Str +10 Sta +6 Wis +15 HP
Moktor Helm +21 AC +5 Sta +4 Wis +8 vsFire +10 HP
Moktor Vambraces +21 AC +5 Str +5 Dex +3 Wis +10 HP

Update: I have started keeping this list up-to-date here - http://www.darkstorm.co.uk/eq/eq-warrior-armour.php - for a couple of reasons. I'll leave this post here, but any updates will be on the linked webpage.

28/2/07 update.
I've added all the LDoN sets and the other OoW tradeskill armour (master, journeyman, expert) to the list. One set of TBS armour is in, and I'm working on the others.

Original post follows

This post is a list of 'warrior armour sets' (some are exclusive to warriors, some are all plate classes, and some are race specific). It doesn't include everything, too much blue diamond cultural for that, but it tries to give a good general list of stuff.

Some notes at the bottom.

1. First Order is auged (where listed) with the best pure type 9 HP augs from DoN only
2. GM Armour is auged with the GM augs even in the base entry, the auged entry has those plus type 9/12 HP augs from DoN.
3. I think the Fierce Heraldic and the Brellium Platemail are the best examples of Blue Diamond Cultural, it's not worth listing them all. For example, the Dark Elf "Dark Prince Regent" armour appears to have the same stats as Brellium Platemail.
4. Fallen Spirit Bracers are Lore, so only one included in the set.
5. GM (Bazu Seal) and GM (Last Blood) are indicative only, based on the information and choices in the posts here (http://www.thesteelwarrior.org/forum/showpost.php?p=233279&postcount=19) and here (http://www.thesteelwarrior.org/forum/showpost.php?p=233282&postcount=20)
6. Warfire and Atathus' Warfire have been updated to include legs and chest.

Let me know if there are any errors, it's late and my spreadsheet-fu is weak. Not all the amour sets are there yet, these are the ones I'd already collected the information for.

The indicolite gaunts have 50 hps.

I remember staying in Hate for 12+ hour stretches multiple days in a row looking for that armor. Damn.

I know you prephased the post by saying not all armor sets are included, I just want to make sure you remember the eternity (ToB) set to that. It's on par with Vadd's and represents a bypass to GoD upgrades. My guild chose to skip GoD, so most of my armor is actually ToB armor.

Added the fallen saint armour, even though it's not warrior specific.

Not all of the Warfire stuff is on Lucy yet, I'll add it when it is. If someone wants to let me know what an 'average warrior targetted' set of GM Armour + Last Blood looks like, I can add that.

Nice work Gray, could you add the "ac/hp/atk" row between every 5 or so armor sets? That way you can tell what the 11 is for on the Battle-Marred row without having to scroll up and count over then scroll down and count back yada yada

You forgot Crafted!

It might be interesting, in the name of completeness, to add a set of plate from Time (using 1 raex bracer because quarm bracer is lore and raex guants because time gaunts aren't an upgrade over EP guants), or Tacvi (using 1 Vadd's bracer because tacvi bracer is lore). Not really armor sets in the sense that they all have the same name, but definately steps in progression.

Can you list the specific items other than Raex you'd want in the set, and likewise for Tacvi, I don't (yet) raid in either of those locations.

I don't think it would be good to exanche armor set piece with other loot of the same progression level because it would make it too much confusing. Actually the only case where I would make a digress is for Fallen Saint the bracer is lore, my advise is to use the glad bracer as second armor piece because stats are almost identical.

moreover, Grayhelm, can you add the requiered level after the name of the armors ?

on a side note, I would like to add caps on top of that list... someting along that line:
ac = armour class (no cap)
hp = hitpoints (no cap)
atk = attack (caps at 250 -> 350 with AA)
rgn = hp regen (caps at 35 -> ? with AA)
ds = damage shield (caps at 30) is it correct btw ?
sh = shielding (caps at 35%)
avo = avoidance (caps at 100)
ce = combat effects (caps at 100)
ssh = spell shielding (caps at 35%)
dsh = dot shielding (caps at 35%)
str = strikethrough (caps at 35%)
acc = accuracy (caps at 150)
hst = haste (caps at 100%)

so that a global level of mods can be estimated, for exemple:
Vadd's: 21.86% (without AA) -> 19.30% (with AA) avg mod level +1x level 2 focus
Eternity: 22.35% (without AA) -> 19.45% (with AA) avg mod level +2x level 3 focus
Gladiator's: 36.94% (without AA) -> 32.30% (with AA) avg mod level +1x level 5 focus +8% overfocus
Fallen Saint: 41.06% (without AA) -> 36.67% (with AA) avg mod level +1x level 4 focus

with maybe the global level focus of the same progression ? but that would make it too hard to fit in the table.

Hmm Fallen Saint bracer is lore? Ok, that changes things, I didn't notice that. Puts it back under Gladiator''s then as a 'set'. I'll update that when I'm at home later.

I'm not going to add the cap details because a) they change, b) they vary based on level and c) if people want to know they can look them up.

I'm just interested in listing armour sets for comparison.

Frael

I'd be very interested in seeing bazu and last blood auged GM armor (including the GM symbol augs of course) added to the sets. They are the direct alternatives to Gladiator's and Fallen saint armor, and in some ways more attractive, being easier to obtain and versatile (pick and mix effects)

I use bazu auged armor heavily over gladiator's, the only real downside is it isn't cheap.

If you list the armour and the stats, I'll include it.

I was thinking of including Magnet, Charged Magnet as well.

The overall modifiers can be customized by different combinations of bazu augs. For example, Melee orientated bazu augs have shielding and accuracy, where the caster orientated augs have avoidance and spell shielding.

The overall modifiers can be customized by different combinations of bazu augs. For example, Melee orientated bazu augs have shielding and accuracy, where the caster orientated augs have avoidance and spell shielding.

Each seal is lore, so can only have one? If people agree that this list represents 'generic' or 'best of breed' Bazu Seal +GM then I'll include it.

Same question for Last Blood.

Grayhelm
11-10-2006, 07:41 AM
Detheb, I understand the intent, but I was keen to keep this to sets of armour, rather than sets of amour from roughly the same progression but different pieces.

Frael
11-10-2006, 11:59 AM
Maybe I should clarify. The bazu/last blood augs come in 2 flavors, those with caster foci and those with melee effects. The augs with the caster foci additionally have spell shielding and avoidance, while the melee orientated augs have shielding and accuracy.

The armor set I posted is melee orientated, with all the melee effects (cleave, ferocity, dodge, parry, sharpshooting, block). I added 2 caster augs to complete the set for visible armor, although the sharpshooting and block are interchangable also, doing little and nothing for warriors. Additionally, anyone with a similar or better effect on a different item, might opt for the caster aug. It all comes down to whether an individual prefers more spell shielding and avoidance over shielding and accuracy.

On the whole though, I believe the armor sets I posted would be the 'generic' bazu and last blood auged GM armor for melee, and while foci and effects be aug dependent, the ac, hp, stats and resists remain identical.

Ok, added the Bazu / Last Blood stuff. The Last Blood stuff knocks socks off anything before it AC wise. I'll go see how much of the TSS stuff is on Lucy.

Can someone raiding the content confirm if there's two tiers of armour, and if they're both viable, of if there's really only one viable option (i.e. Marred vs. Battle-Marred for the single group stuff).

Edit: I guess I found it, Warfire is tier3 and Atathus`s Warfire tier4? Without the mods, I suspect most people will say that the tier3 is non-viable, but I'll list it for completeness.

They haven't been found yet, Momentum nabbed Lethar and got Cleric legs (ewwwwwwwww, no thanks) and Enc BP. TSS raid armor is rather depressing, and knowing the cleric bp focus and click by scanning the spdat, and looking at generic mods... guess I stick to CoA bp for yet another expansion unless Prathun sees sense and changes the focus to SLrk3 25% mp. Warrior click seems to be a 3k self heal :x that or I misread, and it is +3000 additional hp. I'll check again later.

Grayhelm

Yeh, in some respects it's tough on the guilds beating the leading edge, on the other hand, it's another option for guilds that mix and match between all the expansion end-zones.

There are also DoN merchant lowbie sets that could perhaps be included. Dunno whether anyone gets them, but certainly they could consider it if they were at the level where they were otherwise in the market for blue diamond/even some magnetic.

The required 48/recommended 55 armor is called "Scale born plate" for the good side and "spine forged plate" for the darkside.

The required 58/rec 65 armor is Consecrated Plate on the good side and Death Lantern on the evil side.

All sets are standard armguards, boots, bracers X 2, gauntlets, greaves, helm, vest.

No fancy stuff, just AC and hitpoints (better stats than blue diamond, though)

Scale Born/Spine Forged: AC 238, hps 330

Consecrated/DeathLantern: AC 255, hps 590

If we are really digging for other options there are also the sets that were available using LDoN points from the Butcherblock and I think North Ro camps. Butcherblock stuff was ~45ish and called Death embracers if I remember correctly. Been a while on that stuff.

This may not really be an option anymore since most peeps are steering clear of the LDoNs anymore.

Yoda
01-23-2007, 03:39 PM
if you are adding more and more armors to the list, I suggest you to cut the list into multiple smaller lists of 4 to 6 armor set each so that the scroll down doesn't inflate too much.

Leonis
02-15-2007, 11:48 AM
Miragel and Tak had the decent-for-LDoN plate sets - compared well in some cases, close in others, to Ornate PoP gear, and it ALL had 3 slots (but they were slot 1,2,3, so limited to LDoN augs only IIRC)

IMO the Miragel pieces were a tossup with the Tak pieces for a war, and Miragel was a lot easier to beat too - almost everything in Tak ran fast or gated.

where it's a hell of a lot easier to keep up-to-date (db backend) and easier to format. You'll be pleased to see I've added required levels, and if you hover over a number it'll remind you which stat it's for which saves having to scroll up and down all the time.

I think what's clear so far is that Praetorian's Energeiac Plate has changed the face of plate gear for grouping warriors. If it's possible to beat enough missions to get it (and as I understand it, it will be possible).

It's the first groupable set of warrior gear to provide more AC than raiding gear since PoP (even TSS armour didn't beat Raex's).

Praetorian's Energeiac Plate comes in ahead of Raex, Eternity and Vadd's in terms of hitpoints and armour class (actually, where does the Eternity stuff sit, could that be classed as 'groupable' by non-raiders?).

NB: Ok, LDoN and non-GM OoW armour are added. There's a tonne of TBS armours so they'll take some time.

Grey, might I ask you to add in the stats when using Elemental powersource? I did some calcs using Elemental & others:

569ac/2426hp (+0 end) Elemental powered (For the average war. more hp and ac)

427ac/2730hp (+600 end) Growth powered (For those HP junkies... but a stupid choice imo)

603ac/2130hp (+448 end) Stone Powered (For Pure AC junkies)

569ac/2282hp (+152 end) Earth Powered (Not necessarily needed to add this one but still a viable powersource for warrs)

I'd add the two bolded ones at least. They are the smartest choic imo for a war.

Do what you will :)

First off--AWESOME WORK Gray! I will be adding a link to your armor breakdown in my guild's warrior section!

Now I am still pissed about the Praetorian. IMO it should fall in the 450/1250 range or maybe even the 500/1300 range.

Can Eternity be be grouped by non raiders? IMO, no. The regen on the mobs is insane and it would have to be an incredibly talented, maxxed group to take down a TOB named. Perhaps I am wrong but I am definitely not at the level where any group that I would be in can handle the names in TOB.

The ToB armor is off the trash mobs, not the nameds, except for the chest and legs. I've 1-grouped them with a relatively low dps group (war/rog/dru/pal/enc/clr, no raid weapons), without too much trouble. The nameds are another story altogether though.

I'll think about adding a set or two of powered armour. Do we know definitely how the power sources work? My main concern is that there are *so* many variations, additionally there are going to be augs which increase the purity of armour and hence how effective power sources are.

Ranger-Tank
03-06-2007, 08:03 AM
yes i know that these powersources work, i wear a full set of praetorian. I go from 10.9k to 11.3k unbuffed equiping my elemental power and my ac raises by 50ish. Which makes sense since i have the HP increase aa's. Each item gets 4ac and 37 hps. 4x8=32ac, 8x37=296hps.

Got the full power source names?

The ToB armor is off the trash mobs, not the nameds, except for the chest and legs. I've 1-grouped them with a relatively low dps group (war/rog/dru/pal/enc/clr, no raid weapons), without too much trouble. The nameds are another story altogether though.

Aye, my point was a full set is not attainable imo without a raid or some serious end game types, which I am not.

too bad the stone orb has only a guard II proc... guard proc being like a vie but for melee only it should have the same hate as vie proc which is the same as rune... this put the guard IV proc (the best of the line) just under a rune III proc (at the level of an anger 2 proc actually) ...
unfortunately it is only the 2nd level of the line :(

so guard does have an innate hate value? IE. Guard 4 proc is like anger2? or are you just wishing Yoda? If so, i'll scrap my CS4 aug in offhand and get Guard 4 to make my tanking life easier.

guard proc are rune type proc thus as double hate than the HP saved. Guard2 as thus 200 hate and guard4 400 hate.

Catamander

Guard and Rune are also hate-list based hate generation, like heals -- not target-based hate generation. This means that all mobs that currently have you on their active hate lists and are in chase range will add the hate of the guard/rune proc, not just your target. Back in the old days of LDoN clearings, the SEWS from PoEarth was an excellent weapon for clearing dungeons and grouping for exactly this reason. Not ideal for raid-boss tanking, but fantastic at mass aggro generation.

one question through, I may remember that every benefit spell has a chance to draw no aggro at all... do you think it's possible with runes and/or procs

Grayhelm
03-09-2007, 09:39 AM
I think it was the other way around - mobs have a chance to spot beneficial spells, or to not notice them. Stupid mobs miss beneficial spells more often than clever mobs. This results in giants for example, not noticing healers as much as vampires. People noticed sometimes in Kael that just healing the tank didn't get you any faction - because the mobs didn't even notice the heals.

Yoda

precisely, hence my question. but then, if it's IA-based then probably that the distance to the mob is important, so I guess that a tank with heal proc or rune proc wouldn't have his procs unnoticed sometime.

Yes, I remember there being some dev discussion on this issue but only in rather vague (to my mind) terms and never any kinds of testing or parses to play with it. My SEWS has been banked for a long time, but my main targets when I did use it were LDoN mobs, most of which rank as the intelligent types. Especially the eleventy billion NRo missions I did with all those infernal casters. Anyway, that's just to say that my experience with the good hate-list aggro from SEWS proc was probably gained in an optimal environment for that type of proc. You are probably right about the AI producing wacky results in less optimal environments.

LOL Don't H8 Silthrix. pheer my 1337 Praetorian ARMORZ!

BAH! I honestly cannot see myself doing stupid missions back to back for the limited extra stuff that Praetorean brings... Hoping to be able to pick up some Anguish armor drops soon anyway, and for the money, I'd much rather win a drop off a bad ass mob than deliver tons of mail or whatever for my pieces :D

TBS missions imo are the best xp in the game. I always stack my groups w/ dps and do things like KfP and yield 5 AA's with 3 minutes left on LoD by the time I'm done. If LoD ain't up I'll hit up something like snakes are hiding something for some challenging xp w/ greater orux reward. Grinding in TSS seems to take twice as long as it does in TBS, so imo orux just comes naturally with the great xp. Of course if you grind boring solo tasks for faction you might have a different view.

I rolled my eyes at first, but there are some challenging TBS missions which have me on the edge of my seat.
I was worried it would be a dull boring grind. But there should be a mission for any taste. *Hates hide and seek, LOVES choose your own nerf chests*

Buying power souces is annoying however. I buy in bulk and stuff them in bank.

I still haven't managed to build enough enthusiasm to go and get Orum to get the armour. Got two TSS power sources (lame lame same name game) and upgraded my TSS gloves and helm last night, which was a nice boost in mod2's. I've done one Katta mission (on my wizard), and I'm sure the rest of our group will gravitate towards them at some point.

To be honest, I was having too much fun doing the 135hp / 15ac hand aug quest (finally complete), and we still need to spend some time doing that for a few more guildies.

I churned my warrior to ally on a mix of group missions and Library Heist (pre-nerf of course). That went relatively quickly once I started using my wizard and the campfire to bounce the warrior around Katta doing the heist mission. Since the nerf I have been doing the slow group mission churn for the rest of our 6 toons, mostly 6-boxing missions. My wife has joined me for a few with us each 3-boxing, but mostly it's just me and I am doing Thalassius missions for about 40-50 orux a pop and about an hour to 90 minutes of actual playing time per completion (elapsed time is longer as I afk quite a bit). In true groups I pick up orux and faction a good deal faster, but when factioning 5 toons its just faster to box them all together slowly than run them in real groups individually or even in pairs. Buffing the tank up with our box crew to 17k / 3200 the Thalassius missions are trivial. I rarely cast more than a heal over time. Perfect for casual 6-boxing while doing chores or watching TV.

At 1200 orux those who had done no solo missions broke into Kindly (roughly 24-25 missions).

At 1700 orux those who had done no solo missions broke into Warmly (roughly 35-36 missions).

I am told that 2400 is roughly the number of orux most people have earned when they hit ally and by my projections that's about right on track for me. Some people report a little less, some report a little more.

I do not have the preorder faction mod item on any characters.

It is a slow and steady faction grind with no significant reward until the very end, but the XP is pretty good, even if boxing. I lived through the bad old days of Velious factioning just to be able to turn in raid drops. This is cake in comparison.

Oh I'm sure we'll do it, the reason for lack of motivation is the armour itself. I'm just so down about the whole merloc issue that I don't have any desire to 'upgrade' to the Praetorian. I expect we'll start doing those missions once everyone has the hand aug (135hp / 15ac, can't argue with that).

The faction mod is only pirate based, so you're not missing anything in terms of Katta faction with it.

Web site update : I've added required expansions to the list to make it obvious what you need to get the armour. I haven't really covered the Kunark / Velious stuff and I'm not sure what is 'required' to get the newbie armour either, but the key ones are in there from PoP onwards. The other energaeic stuff is in, although there's still some energaeic tradeskill stuff missing (because it's not all in lucy / eqitems yet). I'm debating what to do about it to be honest since there's so much of it.

The BP is only 700 orum, which isn't an issue since you will likely earn a ton more than that just grinding up the faction to buy it (unless you do solo tasks instead of group missions).

Powersources are 15 iirc.

Powersources are 20 orum. Catamander is right you'll have over 2K worth if you grind out group missions.
