Gnome Fu - The Art of the Multibox

With the recent server merge between Brell and Cazic I've gotten in more than my fair share of bad groups. Normally I don't group with non-guildies much, but my work situation has forced me to. I've kind of gotten tired of this so I set out to become a multi-boxing master! (actually I did this a long ass time ago, but I figured for the sake of the story I'd set this all in the present tense… now if I'll be able to keep everything in the present tense with my lack of writing skills is yet to be known. Most likely I won't be able to, but that's not the point.)

Onward with the story! I've always had a second computer that I used as a tivo box. Screw it! I shouted as I installed windows and dropped in a new graphics card to get it up to eq specs. Thus the second box was born. I spent many a moon (told ya I couldn’t really stick to a present tense… or maybe I did) with my trusty shaman or cleric or druid or what ever toons my friends would let me box.

Sadly soon the newness of 2 boxing began to fade. The game got easy once again. Of the remaining challenges I was left to face two characters stood no chance. So, the gnome that I am, I began to tinker with running two characters on each of the machines. Something new! EQ was suddenly new and entertaining at the possibility of running four characters at once!

Many more moons pass (and a few suns). I once again become tired of only four characters… On this dreadful day (today actually) while digging through my closet to find my pants…which I still haven't found fyi… I stumbled across my old amd 1.3 ghz mobo and proc…. Hrmm I thought a friend took this, I guess not…..

Once again the fires of boxing fueling I set out to finish this computer to be! Asking friends for spare part I acquired all the necessary parts. Only thing missing is a case. I look around for awhile and remember I've got a giant thing of peg board! Yes yes peg board will work perfectly!

Bust out the hammer screws and bolts and I get to work building my new computers case. After many hours of banging my head against the wall, and running out of parts I finally had it all together. (pictures at the bottom) Yes my third and final (god I hope so) box is complete!

So what now for the gnome? Will I use my new found power to 5, potentially 6, box for good or evil? Who knows, only time will tell!

Well done. At least it's ventilated.

As long as the pegboard doesn't catch on fire.

Now I gotta go dig around in that box of spare parts in the shed.

Kinda surprised you could do this without duct tape.

The trick now is a tinkered device made from a krazy straw, matchbox cars, and duct tape that automates all the spell casting and i'd be impressed. :D
I bet McGyver could 12box. GET TO WORK NAULAB.

actualy. I have duct tape behind the motherboard to keep the peg board from getting to hot =) been on for a full day and some hour.....

Krazy staw would require me to go to the store and buy some.... I'll see what I cna do.

And to think that some people believe we do not live in the best of all possible worlds!

Heh, a geek friend of mine and I were having dinner one weekend a few years ago and he was telling me in the summer his EQ comp was overheating and he'd put in extra fans and stuff and I said, "Well, maybe it needs to be water-cooled." I was joking but by Monday it was rigged up.
The first version of the system leaked once, lol.
The second did not. Not completely sure about this, but i believe he used some sort of small refirgerator to cool the water outside of the computer eventually.
Water + electronic circuits = teh win11

Haha, awesome - what model/year is it? And how many miles!

I cruise around in an 84' 240DL wagon (257k miles) which is developing all natural metal-grey racing stripes!

Coincidence that we both have Gnome warriors?!

Clearly =) takes a gnome to keep a volvo running! But I've got a 90' 740 with 177k miles on it.

And we're both in Texas!

You wouldn't happen to be a really hot college-age woman would you? :D

Had to ask!

no, if I were suddenly a really hot college-aged woman I'd spend most of my time spent in front of a mirror "tinkering" *cough*

Perhaps I should get my mind out of the gutter before it's to late.

I hope the next college student that entered your office begging for help wasn't a hot girl ;)
