Hi, never tried boxing EQ but am interested. As far as I’m aware you just load up 2 (or more) copies of EQ at the same time, then switch between the two while playing. If so, how do you go about switching between them – alt tab has no effect, at least on my copy of EQ, so the only way I can normally switch to anything while playing is to ctrlaltdelete and switch to. If I try doing that it takes a while to switch – which could be disastrous if playing 2 chars, and also occasionally has an error with a “reset device failed” dialogue box then kicks me off. Does anyone know of a better way to switch out of EQ?

If Alt-Tab isn't working for you, you must be using WinXP. Somehow, SoE greased Microsoft's palms enough to disable Alt-Tab. Luckily, you can override the default settings. Go to the Microsoft web site and search for the Windows Compatability Toolkit. It will let you turn on Alt-Tab for EQ.

Alternatively, you can use third party applications such as WinEQ and EQWindows. I think both let you set up a hot key to switch between two or more instances of EQ.

You need to be running EQ in windowed mode, not full screen. That is why you are getting the 'reset device failed' message.
Also using eqwindows is better since you can set global activation keys which is faster than alt tabbing.

LOL.

No, Sony wrote their app in a way which was non compliant, and Microsoft XP doesn't let the app use alt-tab. It wasn't a choice on Sony's part.

The fix you mention is to override the safety feature in XP to let the app support alt-tab.

Oh, it works fine in XP Service Pack 2.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7fc46855-b8a4-46cd-a236-3159970fde94&DisplayLang=en

Download and Install.

On the left window, click on "Applications"
On the right window, find the "Everquest" entry , click on it
On the right window, find the "eqgame.exe"' entry, right click on it, choose "Disable Entry"
Close everything.

You can now use Alt+Tab with WinXP.

I occasionally 3box, but I just use different computers. Only way I would ever alt+tab box is if the other char was just a buff bich for a group.
