I distincly remember that if you already had a corpse, you could die and have a new one to stop the rez timer. Does ANYONE remember this? I know I'm not crazy, because we used this when we didn't have access to the bot clerics for rezzes.

Any links to info or whatever would be much appreciated !

Hmmm I have never heard about this. Long time ago I had 2 corpses expire in PoFear after a very nasty wipe and several hours of attempted CR's.

Since I started in 2001 I have never seen nor heard of this.

No, you camp to desktop (or at least camp that account to server select screen) to pause the res timer.
